The conference is behind me now, and I have mixed feelings about the event. The trade show did not have the energy of years past, but I also was not looking for any new equipment or suppliers. Most other winemakers I talked with did not buy anything. The unity dinner and auction seemed flat, the food looked great, but no vegetarian alternative. With over five hundred people forking over good money for dinner, you would think they could have a little plate of cheese lasagna or some freaking noodles. Oh well, how often does WAWGG fall during lent?
The last days seminar's where an absolute bummer. They had the most incredible panel talking about branding and how to position your winery for success. Why the bummer if this was a great discussion? Because I was in a different session being put to sleep! So many presenters had great info, but awful delivery. What has happened to oratory skills in this country?
